WE BELIEVE IN THE UNTAPPED POTENTIAL OF CANADIAN BBOYS AND BGIRLS
The ‘Breakdance’ fad of the 80s left just as fast as it came in — but the true essence of Breakin’ or Bboy/Bgirl culture still remains strong to this day. It has evolved from the streets and has taken its creativity to a global stage through competition, music and entrepreneurship. The culture and community, however, is still full of untapped resource potential that requires an infrastructure to take Breakin’ to the next level of sustainability and prosperity.
We as a community have learned a lot over the years and if we can learn from the past and help guide Breakin’ to new heights, the culture can be recognized as one of the world’s most celebrated communities. Since 2013, You Be Ill (formerly UBL), our quest to build a thriving infrastructure started at the very core of the culture in Canada — to build more Canadian dance heroes. We have done that.
The standouts, and other community leaders throughout Canada, have helped us recognize that each and every B-boy or B-girl have the ability to become their own hero. Today, we are presenting the Breakin’ culture and its community, not as street dancers, but as individuals who possess the innovative, improvisational, and inspirational skills to lead by example and write a new chapter of Breakin’ history. This is what separates Breakin’ from the rest of the world.
You Be Ill harnesses this uniqueness and applies it across all aspects of business, health, and wellbeing. From being a ‘fad’ to being a healthy self-sustainable culture. We are taking Breakin’ and re-introducing the community with a twist. That is to — put belief in each other. Because it takes an encouraging, collaborative, and collective effort to make big things happen.
